Thieves are about.... it's that time of the year again!

Re: Thieves are about.... it\'s that time of the year again!

When you say 'More' - how recently? I know there were some burglaries from the Wicormarine moorings a couple of weeks ago, anything since?

Re: Thieves are about.... it\'s that time of the year again!

These may be the ones. Three boats I was told about last night. All from the rafts nearly opposite Wicor'.
Last year there were a lot of break-ins at Portchester sailing Club moorings around the same time and at least one at Wicor that I heard about.

A recession normally means increased crime, would be a good plan to do what you can to increase the security of your valuables anywhere......

Re: Thieves are about.... it\'s that time of the year again!

It would be useful to know what's been taken so I can decide if it's worth going to Beaulieu

Re: Thieves are about.... it\'s that time of the year again!

Might be an idea for all those who have had gear nicked to get together via this forum to form a posse and visit Beulieu to "lynch" a few stallholders.
On reflection may be better to recover the gear en masse and inform the boys and girls in blue!

Re: Thieves are about.... it\'s that time of the year again!

I have spoken to Police on many occassions, and they say there is no corralation between thefts and boat jumbles. Anyhow police attend every boat jumble in Hampshire!!! I suppose it depends on the loser if they have marked their prorerty and recorded serial numbers so it can be identified, Then again there are those who dont want it back.

Re: Thieves are about.... it\'s that time of the year again!

Sailing out of Port Solent on Wednesday I saw an open dayboat type with out board, acting strangly on the shallow section across from Portchester, looked like they were chopping something with an axe, they left towing a dinghy, after I had taken photos,
At half five this morning, Sunday, there was a very similar, possibly the same boat with three blokes inside, going round the pontoons here at Gosport Marina, taking photos of the inflatables and outboards hanging off the back of the big boats across from me. I dont think it was sight seerers, but who do I tell, I notice the harbour police arround the harbour a lot, but do we contact them? and how?

Re: Thieves are about.... it\'s that time of the year again!

Hello Chrissie

As you thought that they were suspicious, then it would be a very good idea to pass your information onto the Hampshire Marine Unit which operates inside Portsmouth Harbour.

You never know, they just might have their own suspicious about the boat you saw this morning. Tell the Marine unit you have photographs and are willing to supply copies.

The Marine Unit can be contacted on: 0845 0454545.

Do it as soon as you can.

Hi, just got back from long w/e to see your posting.
I agree with David (lenseman) regarding police no. given.
also...please try Queens Harbour Master QHM 02392 723694 and I'm sure they would be interested to know all you have seen and photos.
They work hand in hand with the police and are trying to get on top of the thieving problem
Good luck, and let us know how you get on

Scotty
