They're not telling the whole story here.....

I love the fact that the first thing they do is give the value of the boat.
Not details about the poor soul.

They usually make sure that family are all informed first before releasing details such as names to the gutter, sorry, representatives of the media.

Yes, but their intention is for people to judge and the first thought they had was 'ooh, how much was the boat worth?' In the hope they can stir up some anti rich sentiment or similar. It the same everything you see a story where for some inexplicable reason the value of a house is mentioned.

Does it matter if the oat was worth £1000 or £1m some poor sod has lost his life

This is truly awful.
The lad who lost his life is a friend of mine, his daughter is best friends with my daughter. Was only speaking to him on Thursday night, we'd been arranging to take him out on our boat later in the summer.
He was excitedly telling me about the boat he was going out on yesterday.
Very very sad
RIP

Yup, there'll be a few people reading that who will be thinking 'rich barstewards, they deserved it'. One of the worst characteristics of the British race IMHO

Terrible news! RIP to the young lad. Goes to show how a nice sunny evening can go disastrously wrong very quickly!

I think I've seen that boat a few times before in Osbourne Bay. I'm guessing it's local?

Very sad news indeed. From the point of view of being a boat owner who also has children and a jet rib, I just hope the lesson are told and more importantly understood, to prevent this type of terrible accident happening again.
Our condolences to the family and friends involved.

Very sad news. As already mentioned a very distasteful angle from the media but unfortunately it was ever thus.
Condolences to the family and friends.

Just awful. I was at the Gosport lifeboat yesterday with a pack of Brownies when they got the shout. The girls were all excited to see the boat go but we just knew it was going to be something very serious due to how it was being handled. I have so much respect for the guys (and girls) who man the lifeboats, who will have done their very best. But so dreadfully sad at the outcome.

Really sad news. I desperately hope I'm wrong but from the description it looks like a charter. I sometimes think we are being kill joys for not chucking the Jet Ski on the the back of our boat when chartered but I worry about people out for the day getting into trouble.

As owners we know the dangers and act accordingly but guests are unaware. Let us all learn from this tragic event even before the reports come out and make sure any guests aboard thoroughly briefed no matter how boring it makes us.

I know nothing about the circumstances so am in no way casting aspersions on the skipper, crew or guests., just vocalising my thoughts,. There but for the grace of god.... Even if not operating commercially we all have friends on board.

I know after the Padstow accident I can not get into our tender without first clipping on the kill cord. Cold comfort I'm sure but lives will have been saved.

Henry.
