No, not the Club bar, the Caernarfon Bar!

It seems that a new, deeper channel has opened up to the south of the wreck of the Cambrian Castle & the channel bouys will be moved to mark this new entrance on 10th of June.

No big disaster if you forget, the old channel is still useable if you follow your GPS wp's but you may wonder where all the bouys have gone! :D

Full details here on the CHT website

Noticed yesterday, there was only 6ft half way between C6 and the 'gate' at C5 and C4 at 2 .1/2 hours after low water.
The 'new' proposed channel seems to have reverted back to where it was when the Grampian foundered!
There have been a few 'movements' I reckon this last few months
Beware at C10 and C7 Peeps just off 'Ty Calch' at 53. 11. 439 N --- 04.16.759W.
The 'drying area' just North of that position has now 'grown' to sit in that position.
Right in the navigable spot that is indicated to be 3 metres at LAT!
There at 1/2 an hour before LWS 6 weeks ago, had to raise the outboard to get through!!
Good innit:)

Seems its all change everywhere.

Porthmadog is completely different to last year now wide and shallow rather than narrow and deep.

Pwllheli has a new bar "Stus Mud Bank" just after Pile 14 . Watch out for the starboard markers if they are on their side the seagulls can stand up!

Caernarfon looks deeper and you get out to sea quicker.

Steve, as a general rule at what state of tide do you reckon to straight line from Mermaid Cove to Mussel buoy giving at least 2M over the sandy stuff?

Dont tell me you follow all those marks to the fairway like the Venturers do!

Assuming no lumpy watery bits.

:D I am not know for following the channels, but I am not there often enough to give a reliable answer. TBH, being lazy, I follow the bouys & then cut off direct from about C4. Leave the echosounder on if not within an hour either side of HW. I usually stick with the 3 hrs either side guidance & come in on a rising tide anyway.

With the new Channel I would probably head straight for C6 - but Kwacker's yer man, he knows all the sandbanks, rocks & wrecks from personal aquaintance. ;-)

Bleedin typical. Guess who plotted all the positions of the marker buoys last weekend!

S'awrite, the channel won't vanish overnight, it's just getting shallower - Wot's your draft anyway? 2' ish? After 1/2 flood you could probably just drive straight across pretty well where ever you like. :D But if you do try - it is entirely at your own risk! :p

From a position
53.08.495N
04.24.158W
C.T.S 120M
2 and bit ish Nautical miles
Fetches you up in a postion just Sow West of Mussel Bank bout 1 third of a mile
2 hours either side
Wouldn't want to be there any sooner or later in a raggie whatsit unless it was like a millpond
From the same position
C.T.S 105 M
1 Hour either side
Brings you straight to the 'Gap'
Well, thats at the Mo
Gawd knows after the next decent blow:D

Bouys have now been moved & new positions are on the CHT site as posted earlier. I must admit, I don't mind paying my harbour dues when they are so sharp on sorting the channel marking. And for someone who suffers from terminal stinginess that's a big compliment!

Crikey Kwacka, there was an awful lot of highly official nautical terminology being produced by you in this thread, sounds like you'll be publishing the local 'notice to mariners' in future! ;) :)

3 feet. Do you know if the new positions will be available from the CHT website?

I wonder when people will start to question the logic and sense of the Welsh Assembly and other funding sources giving £8.8m to build a saling accademy in a harbour which gets more and more difficult to enter or move around inside and extend a marina which already has around 50 empty spaces. Even local marine business people have recently called the harbour a 'death trap' in the local press! This is in a harbour run by a council which seems not to have a clue how to manage the short term problems let alone provide a long term solution.

Do you mean, after studies by government funded experts, initiated by clue-less bureaucrats, the massively over capitalised operation went tits up, and now no-one in authority wants to know about it?

It's ok though, your politicians are in good company, this place is full of them as well .

For obvious reasons to some I have only just read this thread..........

It seems that the new channel has a minimum depth of 1.8m, that should give a little more time access to those with enough power to push a tide :)

I seem to remember the channel like that a number of years ago ?

Tom

Push a tide? PUSH A TIDE! WTF? Go with the flow man, it's just a case of timing & passage planning, halves your fuel costs if you use your brain instead of your throttles.
