They don\'t make \'em like they used to

Got down to harlequin for the first time in ages... What with the weather, in-laws visiting and until a couple of days ago pneumonia..

Thought I would do a bit of maintenance and top up the electrolyte in the batteries. Pulled the ring to open the lazerette hatch and ping - off it came (the ring).

This is annoying as it's the third one I have screwed in and they are only lasting a few months before rusting to buggery.

Here is the culprit

Last time I though I would get a brass one. Brass should last, but I think it's only brass coated and had a mild steel pin through it...

So, anyone have any pointers to something I could replace this with that will last more than 5 minutes?

I wonder if that is 100% stainless, or stainless with mild steel hinge. Will have to ask. Have you used these before? Outside?

Nope - had a few genuine enquires and plenty of other "genuine" buyers who wanted to pay more than the asking price and then could I send the difference to their shipping company......

I think it's going to be tough selling a twin engined mobo for a while until the red derv situation settles down. Going to keep on using her until she sells. Best way to make sure she is in full running order. The only difference is that I have to make sure she is very tidy when I leave.... just in case!

Stupidly I didn't measure which one I have... they are made in 1.5" and 2.0" versions.. I suppose if I get one at least 2" wide then it will cover the 1.5" hole!

I have a few good suggestions to try. Thanks all.
