Speed - er, well was it 'knots or nots!. Certainly gave owners plenty of sea time if they dared take on out under sail.

LBS showed a gaff rigged version one year - it actually looked much prettier, and a long queue to view it.. Dont know whether there was any improvemnt in -er- performance and handling.

Re. the Buckler, I tend to agree it would be a poorer world if such inspired designs didn't exist; as long as someone else has them !

A chum and I once had ideas of using Bucklers for a 'marine paint ball' set-up with dummy cannon, a la the later 'Master & Commander'.

We were thinking of making a promotional film, ' Swash-Buckler ! ' - probably fortunately, the idea didn't seem so good the next morning...

The Buckler ugly? No, just quirky! For ugly take a long peep at some of the fly-bridge boats that haunt the Broads. Some are wonders of design but, equally, some are unbelievably ugly. A recent thread showed some Broads based boats that are really rather smart but one, ooooooh dear, incredibly ugly. Must have cost a bomb but that doesn't mean its a pleasure to look at. Taste and dosh don't always go hand in hand. No, no link, wouldn't want to upset a fellow forum member
