Evening all,

Apologies if this has been mentioned already but a chap from the Sailing Club (Stone) has reported that a cruiser at The Blackwater Sailing Club has been broken into over two nights and had its heating system stripped out.

Not good news and I'd suggest people be extra vigilant in the area.

Terrible news for local mooring holders.

Worrying to think a boat has been specifically targeted for its heater. I started bringing home all the portable equipment - handheld gps, radios etc, but this sort of thing theft beggars belief.

Surely a local boat owning scrote in need of a heater spotted the boat and went back for it, hardly opportunist I would think?

Two weeks time in Ipswich!

Does make me wonder if we have one local scrote who is kitting his boat out with other people's equipment, at MSC we had things like berth cushions and instruments taken along with, would you believe tins of food.

It's not good. Like to think that most boat owners around our way, look out for each other.

Hopefully all the 'good ones' can keep eyes pealed for unusual behaviour etc.

The list now includes the outboard from a moored yacht & a genny from another both moored off Stone. The heating system was not from a stone boat but further along at Blackwater i understand. Another Blackwater boat now reports the theft of the plumbing system
Marconi yacht club report numerous thefts & suggestions are that the local fuzz seem totally disinterested
The whole thing is now getting out of control

Dont expect the Fuzz to get to involved other than to give you a number & tell you they will make enquiries. Total waste of time. To busy with there public image and pushing papers.

The theft of the heating system and other items are upsetting for the affected owners.
The police and their forensic bloke DID visit the boat with the stolen heater.

I am also aware that several boats have had lockers broken into with nothing stolen.
A couple of the owners didn't realise at first- they just thought the lock had broken or corroded!

I believe Marconi has the same.I am told ( this is third hand)that problem is that whilst they have some ideas re what is going on( not apropriate to repeat for now)the pics are the usuual fuzzy jobs. However, locals now have some idea what to look for

The picture on the BSC is not good enough to recognise anybody, apart from general size and shape

Hi all
.
I am a member of Marconi SC and one of my jobs is to maintain and operate the cctv. I believe that most of the thefts on the blackwater is the same person fitting out his boat.We have had two, possibly three visits over the course of the year and I have spoken to someone from Stone SC who has had a visit from him. I say him as we have him on cctv, ether that or a very butch women. Things he has taken so far include cushions (quite a few and not all from the same boat so he is not bothered about a matching set.) glasses, cutlery, tinned salmon, echo sounder repeater and general odds and ends. He has not taken h/h radios, life rafts fixed radios and booze which was all there for the taking. He is normally very tidy re securing the hatch and covers properly even to the extent of taping up the exposed wires on the echo Sounder. If you look back to the beginning of this year on this forum you will find a thread titled Thefts on the Blackwater with a link to a You tube video showing the boat arriving at our pontoon, what i do not have to hand is video of him carrying his loot back to his boat. It is quite possible that he is a member on this forum so I cannot say to much about the information we have and our security precautions .

Just to add another incident on the upper reaches of the Blackwater. One of the clubs members upon retrieving his boat for haul out noticed it had been broken into and drink and food and his heater had been stolen. If the 'perp' is identified then the individual could well result in 'become a navigational hazard in the river' according to the victim.

Alternatively if it is someone 'living rough' on the river lets hope for a seriously hypothermic cold snap!!!

The one that had the genny nicked has been broken into again
This time they broke a portlight & took all their sailing clothes, all electrics, radio, chart plotter radar etc were stripped & they did extensive damage.
The boat is moored just off their inlaws house & they never saw a thing inspite of their lounge looking over the sea wall
They possibly broke he light so they could stuff items in to the dinghy on the side away fom the shore
The boat is moored between Marconi & Stone sc
