So having almost completed our UK circumnavigation, here is my "friendliness of UK yachties index" on a scale of one to ten.

A. Solent & W. to Lands End. 1
B. Channel E. of Solent. 2
C. Everywhere else. 10

Without knowing the the boundary definitions it’s impossible to tell if the happy Solent sailors are happier than the miserable everywhere else’s.

When we sailed around the Golfe de Lion (in February, what was I thinking) we graded local towns with a shellsuit rating, and Leucate scored a record 11 out of 10.

I'll let you know that I am currently clothed, in everywhere else, although I have been known to be naked, unfriendly and miserable, simultaneously, in everywhere else. I think I need to move to the Solent to better myself.

Has the score for 'Westwards to Lands End' really deteriorated that much since I regularly sailed there?

Of so -
a) perhaps they're just upset by my absence ;
b) that rather undermines my theory that everyone in the Solent is so aggressive and uncooperative because they haven't yet calmed down from their trip round the M25 to the boat.

At various times I have been all of those both on and off a yacht.

I think it fell when I moved from Plymouth to the Orwell and the East Coast increased.

It was probably enhanced by both of us moving although Photodog probably had a slight negative effect only offset by his charming wife.

He was and presumably is still a nice bloke and a very knowledgable one. He got into a spat over Covid threw his teddy out of the cockpit and flounced.
