....to sell Englander! I know, I do love the old girl, but time to downsize a little, maybe to 46 feet, or so. She now could do with a family to take her on, I need some help with her and a crew is just getting too expensive, I want somethng I can handle totally alone. I dont know much about selling boats, dont do it very often, I dont know which broker to put her with, probalby Berthons, who I bought her through. Any ideas?

That must have been a very difficult decision to make.
Sorry i can't give you any advise, but i always valued yours.
I'm sure you will have no problem selling her(unfortunately).

All the Best

Alistair.

BTW, will you be in Barcelona W/C 8th November???

I've had a lot of success from boatsandoutboards.co.uk

Apart from being free to advertise on their web site, they will also publish the advert in their monthly magazine.

Whilst you are deciding on a broker, up load a picture to the web site and see what the response is.

I sold my first boat with in a week of placing the advert.

Also, beware of selling at this time of year, my boat is for sale and I tend to get end of season bargain hunters making silly offers.

Re: BOF

Well I have a pup here and it's pissing and crapping everywhere. Does that now mean you're totally incontinent (or should that be incompetent!!)? Or maybe both.

How very sad. I hope that you can find a buyer who will provide the same kind of custodianship that you have evidently given her over the past few years.

Berthon seems like a good idea, given that they know something of her history. I haven't looked in Classic Boat recently but I guess it might also be worth a browse of a recent edition to see if there's anybody in there advertising classic Motor Sailors (rather than megabuck restored Fifes) for sale. What you're looking for, above all, is someone who is going to be enthusiastic about selling her, rather than someone to whom she's just another, slightly quirky, boat to stick on their lists.

Depending on how much of a hurry you're in, I reckon she deserves a feature in Classic Boat, which would be a nice free ad. "John Bain's last Masterpiece" anyone?

Will you bring her back to the UK to sell? I guess a lot of buyers won't be too keen on a wooden boat in the Med, for all the usual reasons.

What you want now is a nice Nauticat, imho.

PS: Didn't tcm once offer you megabucks to take her off your hands, in drunken frenzy? I seem to recall a post to that effect from him. Time to put up or shut up, I reckon. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
