The \"Tidal\" non tidal Thames

Moored up on the island at WIndsor for the last 24 hours and the water has been up and down like a yoyo.

Plenty of water when berthed - well, boat was afloat anyway. Came back from shops later to find boat started touching bottom when boats went by and caused significant movement - do peeps realise that its not just rocking and rolling they cause when they go by too fast?

Anyway, level judging by bankside was a good few inches down from arrival time so rang lockie at Romney who said they were just about to close down sluices to bring levels up again. Sure enough, a couple of hours later we had risen significantly and this morning we're well up against yesterdays high.

So, anyone know how we work out the "tides" ? No 6 hourly cycle, no secondary ports info....... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Oh, and the stream is still running quite fast - all the locks from Cookham down to Boveney were on Yellows again yesterday....

Re: The \"Tidal\" non tidal Thames

Had similar problems last week, both at Windsor and Medmenham. We had moored overnight at Medmenham on the Sunday without a problem, but then grounded trying to get into the same space on Friday lunchtime.

At Windsor on Thursday lunchtime we ended up finding a space with enough depth right outside the leisure centre so that wife and daughter could go to the shops. I was just making a cup of tea when one of the little day boats they hire out there thumped into us. Fortunately it was only a glancing blow so no damage, but why do they let people out in these things when the flow is so strong?

I noticed that our water level had dropped by about 6 inches overnight.
