The Thames Canal

<snip>
However, the current supply problem is nothing to do with quality. Its a consequence of the non tidal Thames being a Category 5 polluted waterway.<snip>
Water water everywhere my main concern is what seems to be the complete lack of pump out Services provided by the EA Along almost the entire length of the Thames with very few exceptions ?

One wonders if these two statements are realted in some way...

<snip>How many would contribute to s Friends of the Thames Charity to raise funds for such improvements?
Not a chance, I pay the EA far too much money already to want to pay extra to a charity to do what the EA should be doing.

It would certainly be quite interesting to observe outcomes if the EA did remove the bulk filling service altogether.

The image of the graffiti on the stainless steel pointless thing does seem to provide a little bit of instruction for this possibly happening. Public elf will always be immeasurably more important than people cruising on boats being able to load fresh water. No comparison. Be careful what you moan about.

I imagine a few people would go for filtration and perhaps a few other novel and unusual solutions could be found.

There is a water bunkering barge down River which serves the cruise ships at Greenwich. I'm not sure how they make profit as I did think one was not allowed to sell water. IF one is allowed to sell water then there must be a business opportunity here somewhere.

The watering barges don't sell water. They sell a service based on the amount of water required and distance travelled.

On a different vein - got shouted at today by a canal boat because I was going too fast ,- 5 knots with the current and little non breaking wash.
Perhaps canal boats should stick to the canals they were designed for and leave the river for the more maritime boater, or be prepared for the occasional wee bit of roll.

Spec the tax payer is not exactly overjoyed at subsidising the hobby either ?
Don't see why they should complain - lots of non boat owning people use the river for holidays or days out, besides which maintaining the river brings visitors to the various towns along its bank, to bring spending into the pubs / resturants in those towns.

My taxes go towards maintaining cycle paths and I've not been on one in years but accept the expenditure, if our taxes were only allowed to be spent on things we personally use the country would fall apart.
