The Thames and The Big Society

Just to set your mind at rest, Marian & I are attending Sunday's ATYC brunch to represent Bray Cruiser Club. If you have any concerns or ideas you wish presented to the ATYC please do feel free to PM me....

(But only if you are a BCC member!)

:)

Good for you Paul - you do know there's no such thing as a free brunch, don't you?

Well I qualify on one of them and haven't had an invitation - am I doing something wrong or has the world forgotten about me??;)

Ooh 'eck, I hope that's not why I got sent some "homework" last week, all about boat handling exercises. Can't do Sunday anyway, weekend guests.

As for the Big Society bit, I expect that the usual HSE problems would need to be legislated away, or around, before we could do much. I agree with Howard, EA do what they can do very well, but there are areas left when the resources run out. That is where we could cme in, but what would we be allowed to do? Nobody will let us loose with a dredger, nobody really wants to play Stasi-style denouncer of the unlicensed. B1's "you are welcome to raft alongside" idea seems to me to be a good contribution.

Any ideas on how David Cameron's 'Big Society' could benefit the Thames?

What aspects of the river do you think could benefit from community involvement?

What could/would you volunteer to do?

Help row what's left of the Navy after that ***** has destroyed the major part of it.

"So, in the words of my original post"......What could/would you volunteer to do?

Always fancied meself standing on the river bank with a nice uniform and one of those speed gun thingies....on the spot fines for speeding..fenders dangling in the water..playing ANY music while underway...knowingly being on the river in a Hardy....that sort of thing !
Ooo and double the fines if you have aboard anything that came from Nauticalia.
