The start was an adventure, the end was a close encounter.

The story is about me looking out over a harbour and meeting a sailor who taught me the principles of sailing, I then bought a contessa 32 and with him as a guide I learnt to sail a yacht. I sailed around the med and Atlantic returning this time last year.

This is the final chapter of a dream that happened because of that man, Mike and also my father. I decided to end this chapter of my life by actually finishing the story that started with me being arrested by the police because they thought I had stolen the boat. It ended because life and ambition took over, but I learnt so much along the way.

If I have any advice to offer it's what a gentleman said to me when I started, "That boat will take you anywhere, don't pontificate, you will live here like the rest of us forever ... do it." and I did.

* apologies, I posted this in the lounge.

Ah the old elastic and chain autopilot - works well doesn't it ? Shown to me about 10 years ago and made for pennies but so efficient
