I was away for RTI this year, so new to this thread, and very saddened to hear of the loss of a great boat, I hope she's salvageable and is back on the water soon.

I would not support the use of Bridge buoy as a mark of the course for RTI, and even less so an inflatable mark. The reason for this is the very large fleet is still very bunched up at the needles, and I think a mark rounding at that point would be absolute carnage, especially in the ISC fleet where the mark rounding rules might not be all that well known... And if it's an inflatable then you have the added risk of someone dragging it or popping it. I'd say with 1700 boats the odds of it surviving were pretty slim!

Long time ago I did a rti and there was indeed an inflatable mark there. Problem was, its mooring line snapped and it tootled slowly off to the west. You can imagine what fun that was!!

Eventually recovered and vhf broadcast made to ignore it.....but a tad late!

Ah got it, seems there are several names for it. More like Irex as the inshore one normally has the swell breaking on it and its really close inshore.

Well me not aquainted with that area of Watewr at all , but on first thought , seeing the Photo , Craft would appear to be VERY VERY close inshore to me : So is or was it in any recognised Channel through there , I may ask ?

No I think that is simply where she ended up and to be fair if I had a nice sandy beach in front of me, 14 people on board and a hole in the bottom you cant fix, the beach could be a good option whilst the engines are still running.

We had 60kts at Hurst apparently on Saturday for the start of the Fastnet so as you can imagine the photo I saw this morning on facebook of Channel Queen is of her smashed to pieces.

I was standing not half a mile from there, and can assure the assembled company that it was just over 30kn in the gusts at 1400 Hrs.
