Ahoy there; a New Year personal resolution of mine is to try and track down a fishing boat that used to ply out of the River Deben many years back; she was named then, Silver Darling; she was painted overall in Silver colour paint, she had accomodation added fwd; a mizzen mast; she was a South West design craft, probably a Cornwall fishing type of hull; carvel build; a Small Sentry Box steering shelter in her stern; last noticed being sold by a Broker on the Crouch in the 1960s; anybody that can throw any info about her, much appreciated; thank you

She belonged to Sir Raymond Quilter.

He and my father (Claude Whisstock) used to go off on fishing trips in her in the late 1940's, early 1950's.

Thank you 'debenriver' for your comments, very much appreciated indeed.

Yes Silver Darling was sometimes moored up alongside at Methersgate Quay where I used to, err, play and dream on her. Her normal mooring was on a buoy at the start (down river) of the Methersgate moorings.

She I recall was fitted with a diesel engine, a small one by todays standards, which used to chuff away happily.

I last saw her being advertised for sale by a Broker, I recall on the river crouch, maybe another Essex River, probably i the early 60s, I recall the asking price of £1500

I have ofter wondered about her history since then, was she converted ? did she have a large wheelhouse fitted ? oh well thank you 'debenriver' you also stated the Boatyard up at Woodbridge that serviced her
