Has anyone sailed up the Tay to Perth recently - I can't find any detail in my pilot guides and the FYCA Pilot appears well out of print.

We will be in Tayport tomorrow and either a day trip or an over night stop in Perth seemed a nice idea.

I'm just looking for the usual, is it worthwhile, a few sailing hints, who I could /need to contact, overnight stops, which, if any, pilots/websites have info etc.

As ever, thank you for reading.

I can remember working on a ship berthed in Perth once a long time ago so it would have been doable whether it would be worthwhile I am not sure

I believe the sailor doing the round UK Harbour Master Challenge took his boat up to nearly Perth - contact details on this article, and I am sure he would be happy to share knowledge for a small contribution - Sailor to circumnavigate the UK, visiting every Harbour Master, in aid of Seafarers UK charity - Cobseo

I think Newburgh is the last tenable anchorage - but never been up past the bridges for 50 years, so hardly up to date.

Kind of depends on the boat as to whether worthwhile - I certainly wouldn’t take my deep fin keel up there, but in a smaller shoal draft boat could be an interesting diversion.

The folks in Tayport should be able to give some advice - as local shoal draft yachts. Not aware of any recent yacht specific pilot guides. Tides are pretty fast, but if from Bristol Channel this will not be a concern

Check out Dylans excellent account of his very pleasant trip up to , almost , Perth , on his “ keep turning left “ series , depends a bit on your keel depth and your mast hight , should be very nice with the good forecast for this weekend , ??

Perth is without doubt my favourite city. well worth a visit. So much to see and a great Cafe at the Harbour. The view of the Hills will be amazing.
