Me and her indoors had a little wander around Burnham on Crouch and loved the town but thought the River might be a little dull. We were wondering what the river is like either way from Burnham as we thought it might be a location to poodle up or down in our SIB ?

Up river is quite pretty and worth a toodle. Down river not very interesting unless you turn south into the Roach and watch the seals.
As a sailing river it’s not a patch on the Blackwater. Other opinions may be available!

Many thanks. How far can you get up it at say half tide

Used to keep a boat at Burnham YH. Fambridge is quite pretty just up river and Battlesbridge is worth a trip (once) but watch your tides or you'll be spending a lot more time there than planned. Other than that, I guess if you like Fairline boats you could whizz over to Essex Marina (just over from BYH). Personally, I found the Crouch a bit underwhelming and usually found myself punching against the tide to get out to sea. The Blackwater appealed much more to me (had boats at about 7 different locations there) as with its width and lots of places to explore (up the Colne to Wivenhoe/Roehedge etc, Osea Island, and Maldon) it was a great place to spend time...

As @MoodySabre says - and If you go up river from Essex marina (opposite Burnham marina) the Views are stunning especially just before Sunset.
I was at Fambridge for a few years and often went into the Roach just to drop anchor look at the seals and have Lunch
