Okay chaps

you may remember my tool roll.... it has featured in quite a few films - actually too many films because of the struggles with the beast. The tool roll reflects the size of the engineering on the beast.

Now I am going over to a new 5hp outboard.

I need a new minimalist tool roll that hardly ever has to see the light of day...or head torch either come to that.

the old one is on the beginning of this film

I do need it to be able to use it on boat electrics as well as the odd bit of outboard related tinkering - spark plug and oil changes

what is a must have and what is a waste of space?

I am willing to consider a kit some-one else put together

but it would have to be at the value end of the range

Well that's bl**dy great isn't it.

You persuade us all to buy one of your toolkits, and then you do an "apple", and decide that it's time to upgrade.

I'm still paying off the finance on your last toolkit offer....

The next one better offer something better than the last one!

:D

I started on the perfect toolkit when I bought the boat. I now have 3 toolkits on board plus several sets of special tools at home such as the tap and die set.

I've probably now spent the value of the boat on tools :D

Essentials are;
Hammer
chisel
shifting spanner
bigger hammer
That should cover most things.
Oh, and a tube of mastic.

So long as you have a selection of adjustable spanners you'll be ok but make sure some are left handers as well for the left handed nuts on the rigging screws.

TOOL KIT

Start with a decent plug spanner and a couple of spare spark plugs.
A small 1/4 or 3/8 drive socket set.
A cheap multimeter.
1 adjustable spanner.
Screwdrivers.
Pliers.
A decent knife.
A set of allen keys.

That's a start, add on as you require.

Have a word with one of the Techno Freaks, I'm sure theres an App for that. It seems you can't go sailing now unless you've an App to cover all aspects.........

Take no tools. Just buy what you need when you need it. Can't help but be fit for purpose then.

The other approach is to take every tool you have in the hope that Fingal (aka Murphy) will give up any attempt to frustrate you cos he can't find anything you haven't got the tool to fix.
