The other Channel Islands

Many French sailors say that they are their favourite cruising grounds. It helps if your boat can take to the ground.

As far as guides are concerned my favourites are the Bénéteau (ex-Pen Duick editions).
Those French pilot books are excellent much better than uk ones and very much the basis for info in 'Secret Anchorages of Brittany' etc at least it seems so to me. I was tempted to buy the ones in the series covering the Scillies and south coast. The French are much more into nic anchorages anddon't give them a keep away hwealth warning like the Brit books where the publishers seem to want to protect their posteriors from the lawyers. One anchorsage we regularly used in S Brittany was said in the Brit books to be unsuited to overnight stays, yet whenever we were there, there were over 100 boats most times and we frequently stayed put for over a week at a time, lovely.

Bloc Marine - the Big version with the English text.

We had a 2 year old bloc marine with us which has English translations for most harbours but Chausey was described in French only (not that that would be a problem for you TK), and seemed to concentrate on the levels of fines for violating the bird sanctuaries. The SOHM detail chart sets out fairly clearly where and when you can and can't land.

I may be sounding like a broken record on this, but THE CHANNEL ISLANDS by Peter Carnegie.

Info on facilities available at Les Ecrehous and Les Minquiers is pointless, coz there isn't any. Not quite true for Iles Chausey, but close. What you need to know is pilotage and anchorages, and Carnegie's book has that in spades. Pictures for all the transits you need to follow, indexed to a chart. Even though the book is on the boat and I haven't been to Les Ecrehous for 3 or 4 years, I still remember the main transit for the approach - line up that pointy one (Bigorne, I think it is called) midway between the two behind and continue in until the flagpole on the main island aligns with something or other. You can compare what you are seeing with the photo in the book.

Does Bloc Marine give you this for Les Ecrehous?
