The \"Osprey\" 1871

Hi, I'm trying to find out some information about the "Osprey" and its 1871 Master, Andrew Moir when it was berthed in Kilmallie Parish, Argyll. It may have been involved in Highland Clearances; it certainly carried passengers, perhaps whole families. Any ideas where I might find out more, please?

Why not start with the National Maritime Museum . If they can't help they will know who can.
I found them very helpful when I was researching a relative of mine who was the skipper of a "Snow" ( a type of 2 masted brig) who was attacked by French privaters in 1804. What was amazing was they even had a picture in their archieves of the actual ship.

Many thanks for your suggestion which I'm following - there appears to be a number of volumes of info referring to Merchant Seamen in National Archives, mainly on micro-film, I think, at Kew...Not yet available on www as afr as i know.

If you look at this site it may give you a start. There are pages which indicate where to look at the PRO office Kew. If you intend to go tho the PRO then you do need to know where to start. We found them very helpfull.

Thanks for that tip! It looks like two possibilities: 67972 & 67974. There is just so much info that it's very much like finding a tree in the woods. I'll try and find out the "line" and anything else, but it looks like a visit to archives wouldn't go amiss.
