(Or is it the Knot Sailing ….?)

I and a small number of friends who sail and live near me, have an idea of forming an informal club or group in our area to provide boating related amusement during the long winter evenings when we are “not sailing” – hence the name.

The idea would be to meet once a week, out of season, somewhere suitable in the locality of Liphook/Alton/Haslemere/Petersfield/South of Guildford, with the aim of having a focus, in a light hearted, perhaps whimsical, way on boating matters.

The image is that we might rotate among us the preparation of a presentation or talk on a topic, followed perhaps by a semi formal discussion or debate on the topic, and then retire to suitable refreshments, and boaty chat, and similar.

Might even manage RYA qualifying courses on VHF, or other similar, if we can get suitably qualified instructors interested.

If you live in this area, and this has some appeal for you please contact me saying

I know a good topless bar in Petersfield that could probably accomodate you.

I live in Peteresfield and keep mine (sailing boat) Emsworth mostly cruising Solent & Channel.

Have an opinion on everything and can bore the pants of most, especially winter months. Count me in!

Incidentally, my local landlord is trying to establish a similiar thing. Got as far as the design of club burgee with beaver emblem...

A Chichester Trouser is something you can't say after you've been in the bar, eg Shizzester Schissstesster or Shhittester

The Landlord of the Good Intent in Petersfield is Paul Stuart who keeps a stinkpot at Port Solent, email pstuart@goodintent.freeserve.co.uk tel 01730 263838

He's up for the idea of a sailing club. Don't let him talk you into moving your boat to Petersfield Lake.
