Its been out a short while but Ive finally got a copy. If anyone is interested, I can say its a huge leap forward. Excellent in its coverage and far more profesional in its presentation.

If you are a budding Vasco or simply interested in how it works, I can recommend it.

This is not, repeat, not an advert!!!

How is it different from the old one? Can't see mention on the rya site.

First is the course handbook. Good explanations and the best explanation of plotting reductions Ive see. Lots of clear illustrations.

The Almanac extracts and sight reduction tables have been split into two easy use books. Much better than the old style.

Finally the exercises are much better formatted.

The change is remarkable!

There's no change to the course only a huge improvement to the course materials. Previously, there was a single workbook combining exercises, extracts from a nautical almanac and extracts from Vol 1,2 and 3 SRT. Delivering this needed supplementary information created by the instructor.

The materials have now been refreshed, launched Feb 2019 (slow boat to the Canaries ;) ).

The student materials now include (1) Shorebased Notes, (2) Exercises and Course Information, (3) Nautical Almanac Extracts, and (4) Sight Reduction Tables.

The shorebased notes are very good and pretty much obviate the need for a separate text book (although there are a lot of good text books available to suit different learning abilities). The biggest disappointment for me is that the SRT are virtually unreadable without a magnifying glass for anyone over the age of 40.

For instructors, it's necessary to download the (many) amendments and corrections. Quite a few slipped through the net.

See what you mean about the sight reduction tables. But a giant leap overall.

I do get though that commercially, RTC's needed to run down old stocks.

An instructor on a recent course, when the new stuff was first issued, had difficulty reading the almanac stuff, because the font size was too small.
Apparently the school had to scan, resize & print the pages so they were able to be used.

As David mentioned ^^^ its the sight reduction pages, now in a separate booklet.

Mrs S will be at the Yachtmaster Instructor conference in a couple of weeks and its on her list to talk about. Although I reckon there has already been a stack of feedback on this!
