We are hoping to get over to southern Netherlands at the end of July and would like somewhere to leave the boat for a week while i come home and return again in August. Can someone recommend a low cost safe haven?

Thanks
best regards

We got weatherbound in Den Helder for a week once.

The bar was above the marina office, which was actually on the pontoon.

Sitting there one night while it was blowing a hoolie outside, one of the crew said, "They'll never believe this back home. This bar is moving."

And it was !

Great folk the Dutch. Don't know about leaving your boat there though. There was a train service to Amsterdam, I seem to recall.

Any Marina in Zealand is low cost, compared to UK.

Middleburg, Flushing have stations, most others either have or are short bus/taxi ride away.

Anywhere will do.

Westerschelde: Flushing, Breskens, Terneuzen. In that order. Breskens is bigger, Terneuzen not exactly tranquil as waves from passing carriers rolls in, but the cheapest. Flushing has the easiest connections, with a main railroad station and ferries. Also Middelburg: well sheltered, good acces to public transport (is the provincial capital). This would be my recomendation for an extended layup
Train Vlissingen-Middelburg-Roosendaal- Amsterdam-Easyjet.

oosterschelde: Goes (small marina, but good access to public transport). Tholen.
Wemeldinge, Kats, Colijnsplaat and Roompot Marina are fine, but expensive and difficult access to trains.

We never paid more than £12 a night. Stayed in city centre marina in Dordrecht during their blues festival for 6 euros a night including leccy. Fantastic country.

Breskens is too open and expensive and no onwards transport

Terneuzen is too far out of the way up the Westerschelde and again transport is not easy.

Flushing has transport but is open and gives less protection to the boat when not occupied.

Middleburg - great town, good eating, easy to get to up the canal from Flushing: Arne will look after you - they are used to Brits and boats left there - try to get into the pool to the left as you enter the main cut, it's under the swing bridge.
Trains just across the road, and the cost is reasonable. Go nowhere else!

When we took Emjaytoo over we left her at the small marina in Vlissingen inside the lock at the bottom of the Walcheren Canal for ten days with no problem at all. For a 9.5m boat it cost 11 Euros 20 - less than £8 per night!! A very quiet secure little marina 10 mins walk from the railway station and ferry to Breskens. We phoned the marina in advance, the harbour master spoke perfect english and everything was "no problem". But then that's the Dutch way!

You could try Hellevoetsluis in the Haringvliet, there are three marina's the a new marina (most westerly) is very nice but I cannot remember the price. it does have what I call UK mooring, none of this mooring to the pontoon at the bow and two piles at the stern.

Further, you can enter via the lock at Stellendam just a few miles away to the west.
