Good morning, Richard.

“but encouraging traffic to one's blog is presumably within the forum rules?” – Good point. I don’t know, having never read them – to me, they’re a bit like the cookie blurb at the beginning of every site.

My apologies to anyone who feels that I am misusing this site. If that is the consensus, I will, of course stop.
If not in my defense, then at least as explanation, I don’t make any money from my blog and its emphasis has slowly changed over the last 18 month or so as due to the effects of covid and Brexit my cruising has entered a (I hope temporary) hiatus.

I just like to keep my hand in, and there are a number of forumites who have requested that I notify new blog posts via this forum. If a majority, or even a significant minority, feel that I am overstretching the boundaries, I will stop forthwith.

All the best,

Bob

Oh my goodness, please DON’T stop ?

Clever, though provoking wit is becoming all too rare on here.

So, KEEP GOING …you’ve a sharp eye for life and sea!!

Definitely don't stop unless the Mods advise you to do so. I've no idea whether it's against the rules or not and hence the question mark ..... but the rules are a total mystery to me, as several posts in Forum Feedback make clear.

Surely as it's about politics and current affairs, it's against the mods' interpretation of the rules?

I enjoyed reading some of your blog entries, but I must admit- they are not sailing/boating related, at present. I do understand why, given the circumstances we all live in.
May be, just write a short post- in the same thread- rather than start a new one, each time? This will inform all readers of new content, as well as keep within forum guidelines? This is my suggestion. :)

Hi PVB - nice to see you again. Your comment is valid, but a moot point. The reference to the Portuguese elections was a springboard to what was intended to be a riff on human psychology and the illusion of free will. I concede that the connection between that and cruising is tenuous at best.
With that in mind, I am leaning toward 01_Anna's excellent, conciliatory and well thought out suggestion. Thankyou, Anna. Perhaps I should ask for guidance from the modGods. Normal service could then be resumed when cruising does.
Buck Turgidson, you make three statements. The first is harsh, the second is unsubstantiated (and unsubstantiatable by anyone but me), and the third I don't understand.

You are a talented writer Mr Birvidik (I wasn’t sure if Bob was your name or something you did). If I have learned anything from your blog, it’s that never vote for a young person. You have reminded me of I little I knew when I looked and felt good, like you I look back and cringed. I don’t want any Prime Minister of mine to do the same

Sat through elections in Portugal from the first, after the revolution in '74, with the communists in power. By the time they allowed an election, the people had realised that the communists had not delivered anything decent, so voted in a central socialist bunch. Much the same since.
On Simon, tripped up to the Lisbon stadium to see 'Rhythm of the Saintes' memorable evening..

Don't worry the fact your Blog is featured does not entice me to have a look, at all. There are too many blogs, but that is no reason not to offer the link. There are plenty of others skating on very thin ice - who no-one seems to object to - so go for it.

I have nothing against your blog, nor you - so don't take my disinterest personally - but if I read all the blogs I'd have no time for anchor threads - and they are much more rewarding :) . I offer something solid for people to complain about :)

You have some disciples - stick to it.
