It has been suggested that the local council produce a virtual tour of the Mudway. It could start with...
The Maunsell Forts.
The Richard Montgomery.
The Isle of Sheppey,Frequently "visited" by the Vikings esp the local nunnery, also not far away the first Pig flew, !
Sheerness, taken by the Dutch and quickly given back, when they found out the sheep were more intelligent than the populace.
The Isle of Grain.where some of the first marine torpedos were tested and WW1 aircraft flew against Zeppelins.
Deadmans Isle.See recent TV Doc.
Wrecks of HMS Irene and Bulwark.
The three WW1 submarine wrecks.
The two Napleonic forts.
Hoo. Where Ted Heath PM had Morning Cloud fitted out and two local; men provided the boating knowledge required on the expedition to find Dr Livingstone.both perished.
Upnor. MYC was formed in 1895.Where the first UK v Australia sailing race was held. We won.We also won the return match .
Upnor Castle proved useful for Dutch target practice .
The Dockyard.Where HMS Victory was built.
The Queens Stairs where just about every sailing legend came ashore, including Nelson and Rayleigh. Samual Pepys also worked and lived nearbye as did Dickens.
Rats Bay.Where some of the first naval vessels where built on the foreshore.
Chatham.....Chatham girls innit.....err moving on :)
Rochester. One of the first crossings built by the Romans to enable Watling Street to cross on its way to London. You can still see the later bridge remains on your sonar.
Bridge Reach.Where many early seaplanes and the Sunderland were built and tested.
Further up are the sites of two battles where the locals came of worst against the Romans.
Must be loads more stuff ?

An interesting cross section of history. Might I just pick up a slight spelling mistake in as far as it is Raleigh as in b. Devon and not Rayleigh as in Essex:)

Essex never heard of it. Is that the dull flat outline you can see in the far distance from Sheerness beach. :)
