,,,above a large numbers of motor boats getting in the way on a particular summer weekend bedecked with flags it could be the Admirals Cruise of the River beating the bounds.
Held over two days, a cruise upsteam to The Hawkwood Stone on Saturday, down to Garrision Pt on the Sunday with of course refreshments available at the end of both days.
Normally the cruise weekend starts with the Admirals Court held in the Rochester Guildhall attended by the great and good of Medway unfortunately this year the Court was delayed until today.
The Admiral of the River (whoever holds the post of Mayor) is advised at the court of the health and state of the river by the Rochester Oyster and Floating Fishery who have been around since 1700 and and hold a Royal Charter to prove it.
Yes there are both Ostrea edulis and Crassostrea gigas in the river plus the arrival of Sparus aurata more usually found in a different "MED"
