The meaning of Cowes week.

There are plenty of good quality, well paid jobs in the yachting business. Okay, maybe not the sort of brilliant careers of celebrity needed to interest the media but good jobs with decent pay and long term prospects.

so - none of the yard workers or marina staff live or spend their money on the IOW? Ok - they're not all "high flying" careers ... but they all earn money and spend it somewhere!

You miss the point. The suggestion was that the marine industry money made the Cowes economy higher than the rest of the island. It isn't. Nor would I see yard workers and marina staff in the same earning category as the "very skilled jobs in the yachting industry" referred to in Falmouth.
