The Master Plan – Next Step?

Of course he could just forget the whole silly idea and let us go on enjoyable holidays , i.e. that don't involve boats - horse riding perhaps ?

SWMBO (but rarely is!!!!!!)

My summary yesterday was a bit rushed and may appear ill-considered given the excellent advice offered. Here is the fuller picture:

Dinghy sailing – inexpensive sailing fun (at least for me and the boy) regardless of what happens with yachting.

Small (<30’) yacht ownership – for me the benefit of this over dinghy sailing is staying on board. If I can’t stand up below (6’1”), then this looses the attraction for me.

Medium size (30’ to 35’) boat ownership. Not really sure about this to be honest. Smaller end suffers as above. In terms of cost, not that much less than 36’ so still a large financial commitment for a boat that does not require a lot of maintenance.

'Big' boat ownership (36’ to low 40s). This gives plenty of room for us and perhaps occasionally friends and other families. While I said all is not lost, being realistic, to go from rock bottom family enthusiasm today to the point where we are happy to make financial sacrifices for boat ownership – it is not really going to happen.

Charter with the family – still a go-er I think. I’ll recommend something in the sun next season. In terms of the stress situation, there is absolutely no way SWMBO will give up a week of her time to do a comp crew course. Hence why I said it is me that needs to improve so stress level reduce and we enjoy the break.

Other peoples boats (minus the family) – time away from the family is limited to the odd weekend. I tend to do fairly big DIY projects on the house in the winter, so really need to spend time with the kids in summer.

Thanks again.
