Anyone know what the Mary Mouse is like for food these days? Is it average bordering on good, or is it currently bobbing below average?

Where else could one eat a good meal (staying either at Haslar, Gosport or Royal Clarence)?

I generally eat at the Wetherspoons in the town. It's reasonably priced and the food is good enough quality. Also beer is still around £2 whereas everywhere else seem to have gone up to silly money.
If you want very nice food, get a taxi to Fareham and eat at Villa Romana. The cost is higher but the food, wine and service are excelent. You could in theory sail up to Fareham too of course.

Food at Mary Mouse was fine when I last ate there back in November, I think. Cosy place, friendly staff.

I'm not hugely impressed by the other places in Gosport. I've not tried eating at Landers, just ashore from Haslar. The Castle, next to the entrance to Gosport Marina, does decent beer but I'm afraid I've found the food pretty disappointing when I've eaten there and I don't plan to try it again any time soon.

"G's Winebar" at Royal CLarance marina is very good, - great food and friendly staff, plus you are likely to bump into Robin Knox-Johnson as his clipper office is next door...

Gossie eateries

The Boat House, the cafe in Premier Gossie has just opened under new people and they are trying v hard. Nothing like the old stuff, light years better. Worth trying, was good last w/e. Nice girls too.

Driftin a bit, when it first opened, it was licensed by the Royal Naval and Royal Albert Yacht Club. The manager was a friend of ours, Gill.

The day before it opened for business, the freshly laid carpet was shedding pile everwhere and I remember a help help call to take our hoover down to try and get the place fit to open. Took hours and hours but got paid in beer. Hoorah!

or hop on the ferry to gunwharf, if you like noise, - endless choice there, including Raymond Blanc & some sort of Jamie Oliver offering...
