The Liveaboard Dream...

Me too. Lived at Meols between 11 and 21. I still have a photo of me sitting on one of those boats, but more than twice as long ago as your age!

Sometimes I pass there, and there's a few boaters, and I'd like to ask them how much it costs for a swing mooring there; but, in all honesty, I don't think I want to be keeping my boat in the UK, when I eventually get around to getting it- maybe short term, but, I'll probably end up putting it at fleetwood (where I'm going to be living off and on for the next three years)

I love Meols, Hoylake, and West Kirby; such a far cry away from Birkenhead/Seacombe etc....I grew up on the Lingham estate; in Moreton, and regularly used to walk down the lanes, over the level crossing, to see the horses down there, and the yachts. Not lived in Moreton since 2003. Doubt I'll ever live there again.

Go

In 1976, we set sail in a ketch we had built ourselves.
We've changed boats on our 80th birthday, but still live aboard.
Long may it continue
PS. Living aboard a boat for old people makes sense. There are hand-holds to help you move about, no stairs, and the cost of living is so much cheaper if you avoid the flesh-pots.

Inspiring! I wish you many years more of happiness on your boat! :)

I think that you will find that all the moorings around teh Wirral are self-laid, or professionally laid for a one-off cost. There was an attempt by the Crowwn Commisioners to get rents for them, but I don't think anyone was appointed to collect them or check who is there. So I expect that some will pay rent & some won't. But I am a long time away from the area so things may have changed.

Meols, West Kirby & New Brighton are all pretty exposed to NW'ly gales. I used to be at Heswall many years ago when I lived on the Wirral but moved to Conway & recently to Caernarfon as they offer progressively better shelter.

Thanks for the info! It's nice to know, if I ever bring my boat back to the wirral; that the option is there.

OK, I've been away from the forum for awhile, going through some major changes in my life, but keeping the dream alive -- and GETTING CLOSER!!!
Since my last post, I've moved (third time in a year) and closed one chapter in my life (divorce became final  ), I've become a grandmother , and I met someone who now shares my liveaboard dream! ;) Life is good! We have been seriously looking at boats since last fall, and are narrowing down our search as we work with brokers and sellers, and actually check out different boats to see what feels right for our needs. But the more we learn, the more questions we have (of course!). So instead of posting them here, I'll start new threads elsewhere. I expect to be busy here in the forums, and hopefully make some good friends that, perhaps, we'll meet in the future as we cruise the loop and/or the eastern seaboard and the Caribbean in the years ahead! :D

Once you make the decision to go everything else is logistics. Carpe Diem.

Yes, lots of logistics... but we're keeping our eye on the goal! I tend to want to just jump right in and "seize the moment," while he wants to analyze all the logistics. We like to think that together we've got a healthy balance (mostly!) and will get there between this fall and next spring. :-)

It's nice to hear that this is all happening to you now as I WANT to be in your position too at some stage. At the moment I have the yacht but on the other hand I also have the house, boring bills, car payments, kids(10&12) and a somewhat unwilling wife. Mine is a dream just now, yours IS the reality I say you have the opportunity seize it now & jump... and of course keep us all informed..
