From the list it would appear that a decent proportion of the tupperware fleet has been allocated to some very worthy boats with interesting connections to,or reasons to use the Thames other than popping up and down on sunny days between locks.
However it would appear that the 30% of the allocation given over to pure leisure craft have been bagged 100% by one organisation and an affiliate organisation.
Am still struggling to pick out any leisure boat externally based of the Thames ?

Spirit of Avalon is based in a well known marina in Portsmouth Harbour.

Feel sure there must be others, still, least 4 or so historic boats inc a tug or two and a VIC boat will be making the trip round from down here on the Medway in June.

Speeds

Some of the info on the web is a bit misleading.

The qualifying speed is 4 knots through the water, which with the ebbing tide is expected to make (on average, depending on time and location) 6 knots over the ground.

The group of 20 narrow boats in the rehearsal last September managed OK... See some photos here

Are you in here somewhere?

Was not overly impressed when all the gin palaces shot into the lock first, leaving the poor old NBs to bounce around outside for an hour struggling against the ebb..

Hi Guys

Bit of time on my hands so having a look round these BBs again. Looks like your having some cold weather in Europe. Glad it was warmer for our vacation on the Thames last year.

Theres a lot of interest here in Queen Elizabeths celebrations this year. What a great lady. Hope theres going to be a live TV feed for the events we can watch over here. Ill get up early for that if I need to.
I had a look at some of the stuff in the Lounge and came across this. Dont seem to be here as well so I copied it across. Hope that is OK.

Probably not - as far as God is concerned anyway!

(FRED DRIFT - given all the QJP angst in Another Place, you might like to note that a previous boat of mine has been chosen as part of the Tupperware Navy. No longer privileged to bear the name 'PHERAN', of course but nice to know she is still pretty enough to be picked from so many would-be participants)

Despite attending rehearsals last year and trundling around from Haslar to do so we didn't get in.

Apparently eligibility apparently was influenced by charity status, regional representation from the Lord Lieutenants, youth group participation and participation in the rehearsals in September - we only ticked the last box so I guess that was us done for.

Given that the rehearsal was not exactly perfect we hoped organisers would rely upon some rehearsed boats with skippers used to working in / with fleets to sit in the middle of everything rather than letting in celeb barge owners that cannot even negotiate the Thames Estuary without a lifeboat call-out but hey that's life I guess.

Anyhow it was good to get up to London again last September and we had an epic trip up dodging weather and an amazing warm and flat calm trip home so just perhaps we got the best of it anyway. Just a shame we could only honour King Boris for our efforts rather than HMTQ.

Can't you hitch a lift so at least you can say you were there?

Very curious as to exactly who closed their eyes, stuck a hand into the metaphorical hat and pulled out the names.
Everybody I assumed to have been involved in this particular tombola is loudly proclaiming .......

Was'nt me Guv .... twas someone else entirely !

They are offering all rehearsal boats that didn't make the cut (which I'm guessing seems to be pretty much everyone not based on the Thames for starters) two tickets in an undefined preferential viewing area ashore.

I was hoping to take my Mum and Dad along - Mum was involved with a company that made the Queen's dresses for a while back in the 1950s and Dad served the Queen in the Scots Guards band so I want them to have the tickets.

As for Formanda and co - what with dodging Belgium thanks to red diesel issues, London thanks to pageantry and Weymouth due to Olympics the freedom of the seas seems just a touch more restricted than the norm but we'll no doubt find some nice destination or other to spend our cruising budget this year - we watched the Royal Wedding from the comfort of our aft cabin last year so perhaps we'll support the 'Tupperware Navy' (yee Gads what are the organisers doing calling it that) in the same way.
