Just watched some nice footage of Flying Dutchman dinghies racing on a big French lake, not in the Alps, but in flat sandy country on the Atlantic coast. Very near the coast, in fact. Actually, most of the land-locked lake is less than two miles from the open Atlantic.
But the locals have built a marina on the lake. It's not a very scenic spot - I mean, not like Cumbria or the lochs. Just a big sandy puddle, five minutes from the real beach.
Sailing there, must be like sailing on the lake beside Sinah Common golf links...frustrating?
