These kind of things dont happen very often in my life, so if you dont mind I'll share this little story with you.

Pull up a chair!

I had been in the very plesant company of T43 on thye friday evening, and the 'Gentlemans Port' flowed into the wee hours, but I woke feeling surprisingly O.K! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Eventually got to Sparkes, to find all my 'Buddies' getting ready for a trip to Yarmouth, and immediately felt lonely /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Shortly after they left a well known chappie called 'Griz' wandered along the pontoon, and said were going for a beer in Marina Jaks............You coming???

Well I pondered the polishing that I hadnt started yet, and thought..............Goo On Then!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Having had a couple of cold ones someone started talking about having a 'chinky'...........sadly Targalout and his mate were due home, but he quickly fixed it, when some bright spark decided the best Chinky was indeed in Poole and not Hayling Island! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

5 Minutes later the 'Mob' descended on my boat.............and I was truly gobsmacked at the efficiency of my newly assembled 'crew'!!!!

Within seconds it seemed the boat was ready for sea. 4.30 and getting dark, but my o my we were going to Poole!!!

As I glanced over the side we were stripped and ready for the off!

The 'Lout' had em fired up, all checked and ready for the off!

As we left the Sailing club, I had seriously never felt so safe and secure as I did with this reprobate bunch on board!

Then came the 'Bollie' Thanks Ian, much appreciated!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The custmary Wake shot as the sun went started to go down just clear of the 'Bar'!

Shortly after this the 'Rat' called me to make sure I was alright on my own in the marina, and I explained that we were in fact headed for Poole, and he seriously thought Id had too much to drink and thought I was joking!...... No this was real, and no I hadnt had too much to drink, and yes I had a blinding Crew with me!

Forgive these pictures but it was choppy off shore to avoid the lobster pots, and Iphones dont work well as camera's, but the spray rendered a camera to be a little iffy!

You can all see the lights of 'Two?' ships approaching right?????

The crew, who were on the charts, the nav gear and radar were convinced it was two ships........... I thought no thats one big ship!!! NO...........its two they said..............

Eventually it became apparent that it was ONE.........Bloody great big ship, not a gap between two that we were heading for!!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Anchored just outside the channel into Poole!!!

Anyway we arrived safely and Poole harbour in the dark was quite a site!

This is the evidence of who was responsible for making sure that the port rear fender would indeed be destroyed by the heating exhaust!!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The meal went well, untill I ate the potatoe basket that had the food in, and suddenly felt hidiuosly sick............even the next morning Sick sick sick! They never stopped taking the mickey about the basket!

The return leg Sunday morning was a God sent morning, bright, chilly a kind of good to be alive day!!!

I know its not particulary a boaty thread, more of a feel good thread, but I would really like to thank those guys, for helping me to have my first proper night passage, and one of the best laughs Ive ever had on a boat!

Guys it was great! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Looks pretty boaty to me. Arriving somewhere at night can be a very special experience, as you discovered. Plus it's much quieter at this time of year.

Looks like a really fantastic adventure, just shows that winter cruising can be great even if it is cold.

Thanks for sharing! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

May be Life Jackets next time though! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nice one Jas.

I have done a late night trip to Poole with Hurricane, but all I remember from that trip was trying to wedge my eyes open against the icy 25knt wind in a constant look for pots.

No bolly on hand either, but I happily settled for a nice mug of tea /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I ditto the sentiments about 'Pot Hunting'!! we were lucky and fairly clever with our route, so missed the damn things. We got a fantastic berth right by the Dolphin entrance, perfect really.

Jas.

Great to see boat's still being used off season! Sounds like good 'craic' ye ugly oul geezers /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Yup - Jason post brought back the memories for me as well. A cold trip to Poole but worthwhile.

Chalk up another great post! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

And you're right Jason, it was a feel good thread, because it was a good boaty thread, well done.

When we left you looked a bit fed up at the thought of cleaning, polishing and missing out on the Yarmouth trip, funny how things can work out eh? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Perhaps the Marx brothers' photo could be put up as a caption comp... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi Jason
Great post. the unplanned trips are often the best. I bet this was another one of Targalout's 'I've got a good idea' /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You could not have had a better crew /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif The hooded 'lout, a kidnapped chippy & Griz. Not what you could call the three musketeer's /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Don't you just love winter boating.

ps We had a great weekend in Yarmouth /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Honestly Derek, I cant claim it was all my idea, but it seemed a good one at the time!

It was the most stress free trip ive ever had on a boat. The difference it makes when you have blokes on board who know exactly what to do and when to do it...........we looked like complete experts.................Something I'm completely not used too! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
