Obviously great to see an article on Pip Hare's race but disappointing that this is in the "Women" section rather than "Sport", and with obligatory Graun additions like:
Far from a typical yachty bloke on a flash boat, Hare is racing on a fraction of the budget of some

An article on Escoffier's rescue is, as far as I can see, the Guardian's only other mention of this edition of the Vendee.

I know. I emailed the sports desk at the beginning of the race and asked why they weren't covering it. No reply.

A rare convergence with the Mail's editorial line, and Medalia is not exactly a Centaur.

Fair play to the womens' page for taking an interest. I do think it is an inspiring story, that three British women entered this most challenging of all sporting events. Pip is a great communicator, her story can be of interest to non sailors too. As to the editorial line, well, the Grauniad is the Grauniad.

I agree that it is a shame that the race garners so little coverage on the sports pages of the UK press; if the UK media were to show more interest, it would probably help future British competitors to sell the potential exposure to would-be sponsors.

I suppose in reality this is a very French event; even non-sailing folk here follow the Vendée with interest.
