and having received further clarification by pm - It would appear that the latter is a complete wind up. :confused: However, it does seem that folks are happy with a date of 13/14 October - so I'm putting myself up as coordinator again.

Location tba - but probably Brightlingsea as it's kind of mid point ish for most for us. Though I would love an event on the Crouch, but can't think where everyone would berth. Not sure if BYH is any good for mass visitation and it's a bit of a schlepp up river for the foreigners.

Kovolan? ColneYC? other ideas?

Everyone happy?

Please reply here with comments re venue and Ill start a thread next week with details and a list of runners and riders.

Or am I on Planet Pini? (as per usual). :cool:
 
Date is good as it's my birthday and I'm hoping to take a break, within fast trip home time just in case, aiming to stop at a b&b or bum a bunk for the night :o
Brightlingsea may well prove to be a bit far though :(
I've also looked at Colne Yacht club rules and it looks like I would need to walk around ringing a bell and calling out 'unclean'
Don't exactly make people welcome by the looks of it :eek:
Hence my positive response to Fox's but I guess that was a wind up :rolleyes:

Apart from the statutory restrictions about smoking, I can't really see anything not welcoming in the rules.

We have always been made most welcome when visiting.

Green man is also a good option although anything over 30 people might be a squeeze.

By the sound of it, The Green Man have some long term plans they're working on, could be good for the future :cool:
Just a thought Lisa, but if you find out who would want to go, then find somewhere midpoint to their locations, you could be on to a winner :)

As you know it's usually the usual suspects who will make an effort wherever we end up! Are you pushing for the Orwell? Where else could you get to?
 
Know just what you mean about usual suspects Lisa, been that way since the first one when we were introduced to sailing by Jim, but I'm hoping most who make it will be doing it on the water not by road (unless I'm lucky enough to blag a sail :o ) so it's best to go for somewhere others can get to by boat. Looking online somewhere like Manningtree doesn't look too bad, but I don't know the place. Which is why I was keen on The Orwell too :)

Never had the chance to become a usual suspect.
So far, the Fitting Up/Laying down has mostly been a WE when I was working (work 2 WE in 5).
On the odd occasion when it was on a day when I was not working, the venue was at a shallow puddle where we could not get to by boat (tide/time).
Now that we could make the proposed date rather disappointed that we once again seem to be heading for a shallow puddle. :(

Consider yourself invited, but be aware that Guapa is a 'no smoking' boat ;)

The last three at least have been MUCH more popular than that! The only way we fitted in the Green Man last time was because we took over the whole pub nearly. We over 50 at the last Fitting Up.

To be fair, I don't even smoke below decks on Sixpence, and always go outside on other boats :cool:
I just object to draconian anti smoking rules in social gathering venue's ;)

Now we just have to come up with a deep water venue, on the East coast :eek:

Guapa draws 7' (2.1m) - the Mrs insists on a pontoon berth and I don't really want to be faffing about with a tender when I've had a few.

I appreciate your conundrum regarding venue - 50 is a lot. Fox's would also be unable to accommodate that many.
The decline of the Shipwreck and The Bristol Arms have not helped.

How about that place in Shotley CliveG suggested recently?

Also have to admit I don't know anywhere :o:o
