Time to think abiut Christmas.. We will be free of all relatives. Is anyone in a mood for non family festivities ?

depends on when you think Christmas is!

This year, first time ever, we are spending Christmas alone doing our thing. however, that's only Christmas Day. the week before we are committed to the step family obligations and on Boxing Day we are doing my mum's Christmas (which has been postponed a day due becaues Marc and I are not going there on Christmas Day!).

So a bit of a cop out I suspect. :-)

We're stuck between a rock and a hard place

I'm not best pleased but it looks like I'm going to have to work New Year for the third year in a row. In any case, Jane only has the one night off over New Year so I might as flaming well work it

That leaves us with the prospect of a tempting looking four day break over Christmas which is just crying out for a trip down to the boat

But that would rule out our traditional family christmas at my parents (who, let's face it, aren't getting any younger so who knows how many more years we'll be gathering at the family home) and Janes' shifts don't offer any alterntive weekends in December at all

I'm in two minds and neither of them is made up!
