Right once again, I had trouble with Groves,John&Westrup (GJW) getting 12 months "in service" insurance cover with them, they wanted my boat ashore for 5 months over the winter period. the reason, I was told, was because I have a swing mooring.

The forum had a thread about insurance a while back and some members said no problem with GJW all year cover, but when I asked they said no, so I went elsewhere, now this year they sent me a proposal request, I filled in the form on line, and again they didn't want the 12months usage, I pointed out that this subject was raised on YBW forums and said some had had 12months cover, to which I was then passed onto Carole Brophy, Senior Underwriting Administrator at GJW and the issue was resolved with two emails, 12 month cover, single handed in daylight hours and an agreed value.

So just a public thank you to GJW

insurance made simple, but yer gotta speak to the right person.:)

Normal disclaimer,I don't work for, or have shares with, and that old bollox.

Thanks ... so they don't perceive the risk of staying in the water to be higher than being ashore.

How do you work that out?

He was refused the policy twice by minions using the standard policy guidelines. It was only thro personal negotiation with a Senior Underwriter that he was able to get special terms with no change in policy cost. Sounds like a "special case" agreement to me.

They waived their rules so that he could rule the waves. :D

My brokers arranged similar cover for me with RK-J when I requested it, but it was initially "not allowed". They also gave me very broad coverage from W of Ireland to Denmark & Brittany when it was initially 12 miles off UK coast!

Haven-Knox-Johnston

I have used St Margrets now named - Haven Knox Johnston- I have had boats on 12 month service swinging moorings for years also without asking they have not put any restrictions at any time .

I also noticed my cover had been extended down to La Rochelle last year without me requesting it with no increase in premium! Which I was very happy about :)

My insurance with SAGA assumed that we spent 6 months ashore, contacted them and
th y waived to restriction.

2nd Jan 2012. Mad, this taking the boat out lark.

Similar situation Steve, I'd asked for UK coastal and they included inland/ coastal UK incl.English channel, Brest/Elbe limits. but with all this agro about red in your tanks I won't be crossing over to anywhere where English isn't their first language:rolleyes:

Be aware that the standard GJW cover limits you have, DO NOT provide cover once you enter continental inland waters, ie enter the lock at Vlissingen - no cover. They will add Europe inland waters if asked, no charge when I did it.

The point I was trying to make was, I'd only go to the CI's as they speak English and don't whine about red in your tanks, unlike the Dutch,Belgians,Flemish, and French.
