Fantastic "big" sailing yachts built by William Fife of Fairlie, and other notable classics. June 28th - July 5th off Largs/Firth of Clyde.
I'm intending to sail down for it and wondered if anyone else from the Fora might be going - would be nice to meet-up/sail in company.
I shall hopefully be leaving Loch Ewe around 21st June and making my way past Skye, Mull and Kintyre. I shall probably be berthing in Largs Yacht Haven, then following the "fleet" around the area.

Looking forward to making a "bit of a party of it all". Anyone else?
 
Hi,
I keep trying to get info from the website, but they seem to be a bit slow at updating things. I haven't seen a schedule of entries yet, but I thought I recently had seen that the Falmouth/Pendennis Cup classic event is happening again this year, so there might be a link-up of boats.
Given that it's a one-in-five-year regatta I would assume that they have been busy behind the scenes and have a reasonable entry list drawn-up by now.
If anyone else has anything to add to this, please let us know. Thanks
 
Have a look at 'Clyde Cruising' on Facebook ..... many a link including theirs is posted ..... & if you have any questions I'm sure you will receive a prompt answer on current details/info.

But why base yourself at Largs ....... why not use the Cumbrae Water Sports pontoon & facilities .... & I might see you there! .... (Y)

Largs was my first "hit", but Cumbrae sounds interesting. I'll try the web.
Good to see some interest from you all. Why am I not surprised !!:)

Great photos, and great compilation. So refreshing to see long studies of a subject as opposed to the "modern idea" of flash-jump-zoom-in/out-flash that ruins so many good films these days.

I wonder how close "joe public" can get in his/her boat, and where the good spectating positions are? Any thoughts would be appreciated, as it'll be my first time I'll have watch this sort of spectacle "from the water".

They don't seem too quick to respond, do they!
Let me know who "he/they" are who might be going, please - IF they decide to go; I'd rather not be "all alone on my own wee boat" bobbing about on the wide briney!
 
Last time they were here we went to a position near the weather mark and watched pass both ways close enough with common sense
This was on the round he bouys race
they are due to be just over a week so should be plenty of chances but they do mov around to various places

Largs marina may be more suitable for the atmosphere etc and certainly suitable in all weathers

I expect they would reply quickly if you were able to say that you had a Fife boat that you were thinking of brining along.

The people I know who might be going will be on board the Fife boats. I met another one today (at the Argentario Campionata Invernale prize giving (where we came 2nd! :-))) and he was helluva cagey about the whole business and wouldn't tell me which boat.

Anyway Robert, you won't be bobbing about on your own, that's for sure!

I get more of the idea that it's a private thing and we're not invited. Bit of a pity really because it really has the potential to be a major event locally that will make everyone feel better and boost icecream sales (very important for the local economy).

If you want to 'rub shoulders' or if the weather is 'V'-bad then Largs it is ..... but I don't fancy the access issues in & out of the marina on such a busy occasion & the CWSC pontoon is directly-ish opposite ..... so if all you 'big-uns' are there before me expect a 23' to raft-up ..... as that will be me! ;)

Can't say I have ever experienced issues getting into or out of Largs due to volume of boats, including the last Fife Regatta. It's not exactly the Solent here. But may be worth pre-booking as quite a few berths were taken - eg by a 45foot or so posh RIB tender to the bigger boats which didn't fit in.

Sorry D .....but I just can't see the advantage of being based at Largs. :confused:
The only advantage would be power & water at the Pontoon ..... & I'm not sure if any of the Crews would want to talk to 'Joe small plastic boat owner' .... ie me ...... :(
But you'd be hard-pushed to beat 'Shirley's' 3-course breakfast at the CWSC + they have power & free WiFi at the Bar ... ++ you can be in amongst the fleet quicker from the pontoon.

It seems to me (as a stranger down that way) that CWSC is a pretty good option for access, and the breakfast!
Looking at the chart, it appears to be quite exposed, and I can't make out what the mooring/anchoring/pontoon facilities are - should I try to get a berth on a pontoon? Is that an easy reality?
