 Took some friends for lunch at the Ferry, Cookham on Saturday. Promptly told that we couldn't sit on the terrace with two small well behaved dogs as this area is classed as part of the restaurant:confused:... Since when is an outside area covered by this health and safety nonsense? I just couldn't understand the reasoning behind this ridiculous rule. Apparently it is the managers rule and he is sticking by it. The waitress kindly suggested that we could sit in the car park by the delivery van...
Needless to say we took our very considerable amount of custom elsewhere in the village.

You will get the same treatment at the "St George & Dragon" in Wargrave which is part of the same chain.
I did write to the address off their web site and received a grovelling response offering me and family to give it another try but to be honest we are spoiled for restaurants in this area of the Thames so left it.
Word on the street is that the Kings Arms in Cookham is quite good these days..
Why is it that the restaurants actually on the river rarely offer good service....

Probably because the restaurants on the river know they will get a lot of custom due to their location and don't need the word of mouth (which goes with good service) that those located more out of the way need.

has anyone eaten in the Hinds head in bray? going there for a meal on our thames honeymoon earlier next month.
Would certainaly agree with the above comments about the George and dragon in wargrave - awful food and service, but always get custom because of its location

Live just outside Bray so regular diners at Hind's Head. Can't recommend it highly enough - superb food and faultless service in a congenial & unpretentious atmosphere. Not sure how easy it is to get to from the river though - mooring on that side is all private I think & village not accessible from Bray Lock. Best to walk from the Marina down Monkey Island Lane.

Food is great at Hind's Head. Can get very busy and they have a habit of not answering their phone either so booking a table can get tricky.

The moorings outside the George & Dragon do not belong to them - they are public moorings so anyone can pull up and not go to the George. The White Hart and The Bull are both good and I haven't been in the other one - all within 5 mins walk.
The Horns in Crazies Hill offer a mini bus service - just ring them and they will pick you up and drop you back when you are ready :D
