The famous SealinecSelf Priming pump that doesn\'t

On the holding tank that is. No blockages, impellor is fine, but it runs and then runs out of steam and goes very slow. I think maybe that the impellor if not lublicated enough and the friction slows it before it has picked up the water. The plan was to grease it and give it ago. Would marine grease be OK or should I be using some specialist stuff?

I had the same after it sitting dry for a few months, if you could get water in there I think that would be enough to get in going.

Relocate the sodding thing. I'll bet it's mounted above the top of the tank and it's not meant to either run dry or self prime.

As an aside, measure the volume of your tank (w x d x h) in litres and read the pump throughput to work out how long it takes to empty the tank - it's much easier than relying on a gauge, little red light or tapping the side of the tank. Ours takes exactly 5 minutes to shift 100 litres.

Take the pump assembly off (easy job 4screws) and clean the impellor, prob got dried bog roll or summat wrapped round it or just gone tight. Worth a go.

I think the pump does say on the side 'self priming and run dry protection'. It is located well above the tank, but in the mean time would greasing the impellor be a good idea and would marine grease effect the impellor?

Think there better running without grease. Had same/sim problem in the past and it was a tiny bit of dried paper on the impellor. As I say its only a 5min job and well worth taking to bits first. Incidentally mine was also mounted above the tank and was alledgedly self priming.

So was mine, but it wasn't in practice. I replaced it (on a hot day in August, but we won't go there) and put the new one level with the bottom of the tank and had no problems since.

Same boat similar problem?
Not a nice job but mine was dry. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

very similar situation. when i took apart the macerator i found a wet wipe wrapped around the little metal blade stopping it turning. took it off...eventually...and it runs perfectly.
self primes and according to the info IS run dry.

Yep taken it apart already and all looked OK, put it back togetehr and it worked fine. Filled the tank with fresh water this week and it doesn't work. The only things that go down the toilet are liquid if you know what I mean. Guess I'll take it apart again tomorrow and try again.
