The end for the Wash?

The Wash is staring to get like the Solent. At one time on Saturday we could see 11 other raggies and 3 mobos. Admittedly it was a very clear day, but at least two of them must have been within a mile of us. Things improved in the evening, when we anchored in Clay Hole for the night without another boat in sight. But then on Sunday we saw yet another 3 raggies and 1 mobo. Again things quietened down in the evening, when we anchored down Daseley's Sled accompanied only by 121 seals. On Monday we saw yet another raggie and even 19 fishing boats dried out on the sands for a communal Bank Holiday picnic.

Contrast that with the last time we had such glorious weather for a May Bank Holiday (2003), when we had the Wash and the seals entirely to ourselves. It is rapidly becoming a very crowded sailing area.

So, any recommendations for a new sailing ground, where we might be able to enjoy a little peace and quiet? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh but you should try the Crouch. We had a wonderful day yesterday. Some young people in an open motor boat had rigged a couple of enormous speakers on a shiny chrome gantry thing so that they could entertain us for miles with some of that stirring thumpy music that they so enjoy. What with that and being given some great big dipper rides from huge polished speed boats, not to mention the amazing display as the wind blew the tops off their bow waves we had a marvellously entertaining day. We even managed a bit of sailing. It will be so dull midweek when it will be just me and the birds (feathered).

But thanks are due to the handful of motor boaters who did show consideration to us by slowing down. They were the ones who got a grateful acknowledging wave.
