When in Norway this summer, a Norwegian boat rafted alongside us an promptly invited us aboard for a drink saying that this is a Norwegian custom in such circumstances.
Some days later in Cuxhaven we had no choice but to raft alongside a Dutch boat in the marina and invited them to come aboard our boat for a drink. Not only did they come aboard but they brought two bottles of champagne and then went back for a third one. In typical Dutch fashion they asked my daughter if she had a boyfriend and then suggested she might like to meet their son who was studying in the UK. They also asked the restaurant where they had a reservation to reserve a table for the seven of us also.
Having done quite a lot of work in the Netherlands over the years none of this came as any great surprise.
