Princess Yachts are flogging off half a dozen Lewmar Delta 40s on ebay at a rather good price.

Since, despite my love of CQRs, I don’t think the CQR 60 that the boat came with is anything like big enough for 55ft and 23 tons, should I get one as an interim solution? (I already know what the permanent solution is!)27540C35-BB5A-4FEA-B167-6E5849F451F0.jpeg

A bit OTT - especially if you buy all six! Seriously it is in the area where the normal recommendation (32kgs) starts to shade and you might consider going up a size. Key thing is can you handle it - ie does it fit the bow roller and have you got a windlass that can cope with it?

I think it will fit the bow roller, and yes.

Thanks, I’ll go for it!

Had a 75lbs CQR on a 30t, 50'+. Dragged twice in 35 000 miles, first time was my fault, being a bit green at it and not enough scope, second time, picked up some old steel cable on the sea bed. Got it to stick mostly, rode out a few 50 kt blows on it and plenty at 40kt. Perhaps hang on to it as a second anchor at least?

For CQR. Pun intended. I’ll never be without one.

Part of me wonders why they are selling them off... beyond just that they do not use them anymore

I think most UK boatbuilders used to supply these as original equipment on new boats, because they were/are cheaper than others.

I notice that several large power yachts have Ultras, which are more expensive than others… maybe if someone is buying a new Princess, and indeed operating one, they don’t worry so much about the costs?

What's your 'permanent solution' Kukri? Or should I not ask :)

1. Modify bow fitting to add two large diameter plastic grooved rollers, ( I had one on Mirelle, at the suggestion of Mike Illingworth of Robertson’s, and it worked really well) with both rollers a bit back from the stem and both well outboard.

2. Keep Delta and existing 100 metres of 12mm chain on starboard side with the S-L 555 that I have fitted.

3. The blingy bit: add an Ultra with shiny chain and a powered windlass to port.
