The Devil tempts me to start an anchor thread...

I'm not sure why you lot answered. Apparently this was posted for my attention and I found the whole thing bizarre and tedious from the start :)

But I do believe there was a NZ company making kellets or angels and again from memory recall the devices were roundly condemned by another, and well known, antipodean (though he was trying to sell anchors and thus had an axe to grind - one needs to be cautious of people who denigrate a product that impinges on something closer to their heart and wallet.

I've put a couple of anchorage pics on another page, chust to remind the expatriate Neeves what he's missing. And.... there are palm trees and white sandy beaches nearby! Truly!

No-one forgets the ferocious midges - if it was not for them there would be no anchoring room left. I've always said - its a compromise!

We have a similar problem, further north - sand flies. Equally small, arrive in countless numbers, get through flyscreens and with a bite you do not forget. They tend to frequent, slow moving water, muddy rivers - commonly the best places to anchor. With the tropical heat and their ability to get through fly screen they are a real issue. It is one reason we find Tasmania so attractive, too cold for sand flies (though I don't recall any palm trees - and the water is bitter) and despite the absence of palm trees - and our possibly 'better' weather - does remind me of wet (and west) coast Scotland.

Minn must be feeling satisfied now - though we do seem to have engendered some drift (from angels or chums to unexpected palm trees)

Well done Minn :)

Jonathan
