Alas I set my sail today, but whimpered 'pon force 7
I sought refuge in Brightlingsea, and held back my trip to heaven
yet continued on my merry way to forecast of docile three
and so I ended up sat here, in the majesty of Shotley.
hmmm reminds me of drifting over the Pontecylyte (sp?) Aqueduct to strains of Ride of the Valkyries on a wind up gramophone. Put me off canals for life.
Ha Nathan! Wot you doing up this hour? Should you not be fixing some bit of the boat? BTW - I wonder if the 'mast' is still there? The BBC rad 4 Making History is doing a bit about it next Tuesday around 3.30pm on the 'button boys' who had to climb and stand pon it. My brother was one such. Last time I was there I offered to send him memorabilia and he wrote (from Australia) 'you must be joking, I've spent over 50 years trying to forget it'.
Tee-hee, Button-Boy I got a bollocking from the Master-at-Arms for doing that when we were up from St Vincent in '63 to thrash Ganges at sailing (which we did).
I just climbed up and shinned up the last 15 feet or so. It has a socking great lightening conductor which is cranked goes between your legs and up to your waist. Just had enough time to effect a salute before I got myself in 'the rattle'. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Ganges mast was a bit taller than St Vincent's mast.
Oh what things we did as youngsters. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
