The dark side - The pull is strong

There's something lacking about a motorboat though.

The thing is you're speaking from experience of going on a 'Ski Boat' which I would guess is what I would call a Speedboat. It's job is for blasting along quickly pulling skiers etc.

Now go up a size / style where you can sleep onboard in comfort, waking to look out the window and see a family of ducks swimming past, use a nicely fitted out galley and sit on comfy chairs watching the world go by with a group of friends in fantastic scenery. That was always the appeal of a MOBO for me, added to that the short spell of blasting along at 20+kts.
Dare I say, a kind-of fast floating caravan. Then get onto the inland waterways and chug along at a couple of kts from pub to pub, and more of the same of above. (minus the 20kts+ blasts)

MOBO's come in all shapes and sizes with their own appeals. Sailing is very different for me but I wouldn't say it ticks all boxes for all people. (sometimes not even me)

I'd wondered what they were for

Winches , as Andy says are for decoration purposes only.
Need to well groomed and look pretty on a saily boat.
Seen on magazine covers and brochures.
Pretty and useless but come in usefull when needed.

Oh!
My mistake.

Ity's me eyesight an old age

Thought you typed
'Wenches';)

I bumped intro Phiz and Biz earlier and while Phil was all enthused by the idea of serving before the mast, Liz was a little bit more reticent.

I am sure I detected an 'over my dead body look'.

But the good news is Liz has come down this weekend with home made shortbread.

Kwackers

Tell Phil to serve you one for me. On my tab. I will pay him whence next we meet.

Bernie

Listen Bernie, you're on dangerous ground here. Kwackers could empty my fun box in 10 mins, Littleships might take him quarter of an hour. Yer don't know what yer dealing with, luckily he's not allowed to partake whilst teaching so you owe me for a tea bag! I understand we might be having the pleasure of your company next year? I might even introduce you to 'the manners'. I'll leave Tom to explain ;)

Liz will be perfectly happy with whatever boat arrives next, so long as we can get on and off it easy, there is a permanent bed, there are some windows to look out of and she gets a gimballed oven. Oh, and there must be room for bubbles. :p

I wondered who'd go for it.Not a who, a what. So you can't remember seeing Liz with her bubble wand on more than one occasion then? You were in a bad way last night weren't you ;)

Oh yes, the bubble wand.

I was not pissed last night. I can't have been as I wasn't singing and I remember the drive back (As a passenger) and I didn't have to spend all day cleaning up sick from the foot well. Oh yes, the harbour master was still talking to me today, as it was his car.

Any way, The Bint spiked my drinks with too much gin.

:D Nah, no point. As Fire99 says, you get it or you don't. Haydn will never get it - but that's fine, he's happy where he is & I wish him well.

In terms of the rough weather issues, MF (like LS) is a big old girl & bashing thro the **** is no problem to her, but one of the light little Merry Fisher Peche proms, or similar like sport boats, would be thrown all over the place. You would need a full harness seat belt just to stay in the driving seat.

)

Oi. Learned to sail on a National Ospray. Not many more hairier beasts than that.
Comparitivly sailing a cruising boat is a bit like sailing a wet clog. Dun it a few times. You heave on stuff, then not a great deal happends. So you start the engine. Then you have the worse mobo ever invented.

As I said before, with sailing you have two options. Sailing round the world, where there really is no other option, but no idea when you'll get there.

Or sailing a dinghy which is good fun, but only round in circles.

If I read you right, or is it left? Kwackers is the Black Hole for drinks and all fun boxes should be kept well outside the event horizon. ;D

I know all about manners:D From rumors that are hanging about, one can get badly hurt from having too many manners! ;)
