I witnessed a tight wad DIY antifoul a 35ft boat, and will from hence forth be known as Mr Tightwad, it was calm still sunny day with little wind.
Af paint fumes are heavier than air and sink to the floor just where Mr Tightwad was laid , after a few hours the fumes overwhelmed Mr Tightwad to disorientate and Mr Tightwad was staggering backwards toward a cliff, SWMBO quickly put herself behind in order to block the cliff but despite Mr Tightwads hands being outstretched toward the boat's grab rail the cliff just kept getting closer now pushing both of them dangerously close to the edge, SWMBO knocked Mr Tightwad to the floor for safety and called an ambulance.
Apparently high on fumes Mr Tightwad's core body temp had dropped to 32'
In resuscitation they administered oxygen, hot drips and a blown hot air Bear Hugger bag , Mr Tightwad suffered a hang over from hell and was discharged the following day non the worse except Mr Tightwad was a foreigner and the Ambulance and hospital fees would cost a lot more than the £300 it would have cost for a professional painter.
If you antifoul your own boat be particularly careful around the tunnels which seamed to be the area worked on last and take regular breaks particularly on still days.
And before you get at me for being useless other than watching , I did complete the antifoul (after checking what was in the tin and the instructions ).

Nice story pete , very funny.

Do you have a story of Mr tightwad "service his own boat engines"? I can think of afew instances where ive been called out by "Mr Ive had a go now I need some help" tightwad.

Tightwad 2 is planning to a/f his boat over the next couple of weeks. Thanks for the timely reminder of the issues.

Tight wads 3 and 4 did their first coat last weekend and plan to do their second coat this weekend. Will take more care this time!!!

Nice story. Was it a really high tide that deposited boat on top of cliff?

Just for clarity the story is true (to my best knowledge), it's not designed as an April fool, if it was a joke I think I could have managed to wait a month before posting it :D.

The Cliff I estimate is 15m high plus the tide fall.

Boats are taken out at high water only by means of a ramp/slip and moved by tractor to the top.

Mr Tightwad complained bitterly as his clothes were cut off by a nurse adding even more cost to the DIY job .

Well OK, if you say it happened then of course it did, but you have to admit though there's a number of things about the tale that raise suspicions:

1. Boats aren't normally stored on cliff tops
2. Antifouling a 35' boat only takes a couple of hours, and most of that time would be standing, not lying on the floor. You suggest Mr Tightwad was lying on the floor for a few hours, what was he doing?
3. In your PM you said it's someone known to you or the forum, and you're trying to spare them some embarassment, but then you call him a "tightwad"
4. What's tight about antifouling your own boat anyway, you seem to suggest it's a foolhardy thing to do, that it's a skilled job that should be left to experts, whereas in reality it's as skilled as mowing the lawn.
5. Normal body temperature is 36 or 37 degs, 1 or 2 degs below this and the patient would normally show signs of hypothermia.
6. As i've pointed out before, you do have some form when it comes to wind ups

Not sure if I am having a bad hair day but I have taken your post as an accusation that I am a liar.
Having addressed each and every point by pm including photos of the hard standing and offered you my telephone number for cross examination along with the offer to fax you further proof I am disappointed you have not clarified your position , I take your silence as clarification that you still believe me to be lying.

Now I am left pondering whether I should just **** off quietly or if I should wait until April 1st before posting a real corker you are so keen on.............
thinking something along the lines of a detailed CI ex Charter VAT scam :D

Having typed this I realize I best opt for **** off quietly before this forum manages to turn me into a crazed internet terrorist after vengeance

Take a chill pill Pete, then read the first sentence of my last post again. The rest of that post was just explaining why I'd originally jumped to the conclusion that it was a wind up. Also my first post had a smiley, which you should know by now means don't take it too seriously.

For the record everyone, i've no doubt Pete nearly killed himself by inhaling antifoul fumes, and i'm very pleased to hear that he's OK, well, back to normal anyway :-)

Alright understood and accepted, I thought your first post was funny :)

I took your second one to be disputing the pm, I couldnt work out how to deregister myself anyway.

I got a bit wound up when so many posters assumed all my posts were wind ups which meant there was no point in me posting anything , all because I made one little mistake in reading a map of Newton creek upside down, that was years ago !

I will have to draft a new April 1st post now........ ;)
