Ignore the cruising guide - the major building works right alongside are still ongoing and combined with the flight path to Schipol make this a noisy place. It is very crowded as in very very. We were rafter across the Back of boats in their boxes and moving this morning in 25 knots of wind pinning us on was interesting. Long warps saved the day.

I have heard that Aeolus marina nearby is quite good but a further 5 min walk to the ferry.

Probably my favourite ever marina!

Was there once when it was so full that they started rafting boats to the breakwater. But I don't think they ever turn anyone away. Breath of fresh air compared to the "we're full" you often get from UK marinas, even when you can quite clearly see berths, let alone all the space in the aisles that could be used!

But yes, peaceful it is not. But then if you're going to Amsterdam, why do you want peaceful? Plenty of beautiful places within a couple of hours sail if you want peace and quiet, Sixhaven is one of a kind!

Aeolus also very handy for the s/mkt its just outside their gate ( beware the wheel locks on the sm trolleys). Its a very friendly club but does loose the evening sun early

I have been refused entry to Sixhaven ! I've still got no idea why. Been there since when it's been seemingly more full & been allocated a space. By 4'o clock it's usually chokker with more arriving all the time. Good fun but a bit of a bugger sometimes when it comes to leaving next morning. Talk about dead men's shoes!

I like Aeolus. The clubhouse is usually open and very friendly. Two or three years ago they installed a traffic light system to the 'marina' which is a shame. Previously we'd sneaked in & found a rafting spot and persuaded them to let us stay. The last time some jobsworth (not the usual friendly guys) shouted at us for ignoring the red light (was just going for a 'look see' ) & turned us away despite there being (I thought) an alongside space against another yacht.

I stayed there a coupl of years ago.

It was, as usual, absolutely chocka and all the boats near me agreed we would leave at 10am. 9.50am and all engines revving up and crews ready to cast -off, except one motor boat which had to move before anyone else could move. Much swearing by Dutchman (in English) at the skipper of the said Mobo. Finally the skipper admitted his crew was in the khazi. "He can sh*t in his own time" was the retort from the boat next to me.
