I am a very happy bunny :)

Today in the post I finally received a copy of "Two-and-a-half ton Dream" by Ray Whitaker, illustrated by Fid Harnack. It's in excellent condition, a first edition, complete with the cover sleeve, also in good condition.

I won't bore you all with the story again, I have told it before on this very forum, but I first read it when I was about 6 or 7 and it essentially kicked off my obsession with boats and triggered a lifelong desire to sail. I took it out of our town library in the Midlands and I think I read it about 4 times. I can't tell you how many times I sketched copies of the cover and the drawings inside.

In one of life's ironies SWMBO and I bought our first little yacht, Kioni, 40 years later in West Mersea and I only realised a couple of years afterwards when I tracked another library copy down that the book is based on the Blackwater, featuring Mersea, Maldon and all our other now-favourite places.

Anyway, I've been looking for a copy to buy for several years now and I finally have one. My thanks go to Robert Jackson of Chapel Bookshop in Saxmundham for having the book and delivering it so promptly - excellent service and a very nice chap.

Sadly Kioni is no longer ours but I plan to re-read it snugged up on board Saguday (another tale of closing a circle...) when we are next on board.

Cheers! :)

Neil

Saw your new boat at Mersea other Sunday morning as i was leaving Salcot creek.
She looked very nice indeed, you and your wife were just pulling away.
It took me a while for the penny to drop, that it was your new boat.
Have fun :D:D
