Great excitement locally as a few people have been caught by it - personally no first hand experience.

Pay by credit or debit card, usually at a supermarket, examine the receipt (most don't) and find a cashback on it which you neither requested or received.
Usually the cashier will re-issue.

Apparently the cashback is collected by the person behind you who is in collusion with the cashier.

I'm surprised that one of the supermarkets mentioned, sainsburys, aren't sufficiently vigilantly managed to stop it at source.

It could happen in any public till, but I'll be extra wary when I pay by card in any very busy shop and check BEFORE I leave.

I realy wish people would actualy stop and think befor posting we do not need to know about every fake scam story.

GOOGLE IT then post.

But it IS true. I take it you don't believe the virus that can actually cause your computer to set on fire either? Or the text message you can get that costs you £300 just by reading it? Or that father Christmas is actually a Mujahideen infiltrator planting chimney bombs?

You are so naive.

But it is true!! Now!

Perhaps the email has given people the idea, but my brother actually had this happen to him in Sainsburys in Cardiff.
Fortunately he checked his receipt before leaving the checkout area ( a life time in retail banking) and found there as a £50 cashback on it. When he drew the cashier's attention to it he was told they couldn't delete it and was offered £50 cash. He refused because naturally he didn't want to pay cash advance charges on his credit card.
Checkout girl called supervisor who then with fairly bad grace voided the whole transaction and put the whole (rather large) order through again.
Brother was not impressed by the attitude. It was almost like he was being blamed for the delay it caused him and of course the other customers behind him.
Course, it may have been just a mistake...

Snopes is a godsend to people, like who can't abide the drivel that gets sent round the Internet by well-intentioned but ultimately gullible people as a warning or just: "AIRCRAFT HIT LIGHTNING !!!!!!!" because they can't be bothered to check the facts.

The point us though that this Snopes article does not say anything about the UK cashback scheme which IS initiated by the cashier. It seems plausible to me (perhaps someone who has experience could comment) I just suspect it's not that widespread.

Dear Amazon.co.uk,

I recently purchased a book from your site entitled:

"Enjoy Owning your own Owl - care and maintenance tips for owl owners".

I am writing to ask for a refund.

There is no doubt that the book was well written and nicely produced. The content was relevant and it came highly recommended by other owl owners and professionals in that field and it was very good value for money at £9.99 for 250 full colour pages. The problem is that I am very disappointed with your service– as I did not enjoy the book due to having absolutely no interest in Owl Ownership as a subject matter.

I realise that I chose the book of my own volition, from the thousands you have on offer – but I see it as your obligation to ensure that I am fascinated by whichever of the many offerings I choose to buy.

I look forward to my refund – and compensation in due course.
