The best river on the East Coast is....

Butley River

Couldn't you just show your very nice bit of film Dylan, and not tell them where it is?

The Butley River is one of the least frequented places on the East Coast. Let's keep it that way...

going all the way

Nice film Dylan, not been up there yet, but will try to next year. Will we be ok with 4ft draft or does that put us in the challenged category?

four foot definatly puts you in the depth challenged category

but you can get a long way up - I am sure you could get as far as the hut

bilge or single keel though

if you mess up then it could get a bit unpleasant if your boat refuses to sit upright

best thing to do is to sell the boat and buy a slug which is more suited to the east coast

Don't say that, they've only just bought Saguday!

Delightful film. May I be slightly critical - I found the camera panning in a couple of places a little too quick. It's the one thing in life that makes me feel queasy.

I just think we are so fortunate with our choices of rivers - something for every mood.

slowness is the key

:p

Your slug does seem well suited to the East Coast, to the extent I wonder if she'll ever leave - you sure you're not going native? :D

aha - but I really am a native and will be returning to east anglia - but the wrong way round

and who knows when it will be that I return to the East Coast

I certainly don't

keel up and her draft is one foot ;)

Surely the title to this thread should read

"The best river on the East Coat SO FAR"

You haven't finished 'em yet. ;o)

Trev

Humber Estuary
Esk
Tees
Tyne

I didn't say there was a better one, was just pointing out you haven't finished the east coast yet.

Love the film either way.

Hmmmm...in my somewhat limited experience of the Humber and the Tyne (cannot comment on either the Esk or Tees), but I cannot see how they can even vaguely be compared with the Butley River...the lower reaches of the Thames maybe but the Butley???

Chalk and Cheese Trevor, chalk and cheese!

Absolutely brilliant, Dylan, our mutual friend the Muddy Islander can spin a yarn about the Butley River at my expense.

The best bit for me was the mantra of the runner-aground, and my depth sounder works!

All the best
